CANTABRIA
Lying between Asturias and the Basque Country, Cantabria has a varied landscape: a rugged coastline, steep mountains, meadows and huge forests.
The three Cantabrian buildings in El Poble Espanyol come from Santillana del Mar, a very beautiful village which, despite its name ("on Sea"), is not actually on the coast but inland.
This town is well known because within its municipal boundary lie the Altamira caves, which have the remains of the most important Palaeolithic cave paintings in the world.
