Puerta de
San Vicente

Ávila
This is one of the nine gates in the walls surrounding the city of Ávila – the oldest and best preserved in Europe – with the original elements from its construction in the 11th century.
It is made up of two cylindrical towers 17 metres high (the ones in Ávila are 20 m high), joined at the top to form a bridge from where the entrance gate was defended.
The keystone of the voussoired gate displays the arms of the city of Ávila. It does not appear on the original, as in the 11th century heraldic coats of arms did not exist.
