You are interested in renting a really special venue, which gives your event an undeniable category with a different and exclusive air? Maybe you are interested in renting a monastery in Barcelona… Have you thought about it? No, it is not impossible. The Monastery of Sant Miquel is the answer, and you will only find it in Poble Espanyol. Our monastery, in an excellent state of conservation, has the charm of the Catalan Romanesque buildings… And is located in the city! Features that few times can be found in one church and that we offer you for events celebration, film shootings or any other special occasion.

In addition, the story of the monastery of Sant Miquel is a very singular one, since it never was a convent for use: it is one of the most symbolic buildings of Poble Espanyol and it was created thanks to the inspiration of the modernist architect Puig i Cadafalch, who wanted to recreate in our precinct an ideal Catalan Romanesque monastery located outside the heart of the precinct -something usual in this type of buildings- and with privileged views over Barcelona. Like any Romanesque monastery, Sant Miquel’s one concentrates some distinctive elements, which in this case were designed in the image and likeness of various existing examples: the façade of Santa María in Porqueres, Girona; the Taradell (Osona) church’s bell; the cloister of Sant Benet in Bages and the floor plan of Sant Sebastià in Montmajor (Vallès Oriental). The result is a unique architectural work, with an undeniable medieval air but with the comfort the current customers demand.

An example of Romanesque monastic architecture, it is made up of a conjunction of elements from different Catalan monasteries and surrounded by gardens with impressive views over Barcelona. It has a chapel, a cloister, a hall for banquets or meetings, a sculpture garden and an independent entrance that permits maximum exclusivity and privacy.

How is our monastery?

The monastery of Sant Miquel is a large building which has four different spaces, all of them fully functional and suitable for the celebration of different types of events. The heart is formed by the spectacular arcade cloister with columns at the open-air, which has an annex and covered space which can receive an auditorium of about 70 people. The cloister’s surface covers 125 m2, whereas the annex space occupies 128 m2. In both spaces you can install tables, with a capacity of 90 people and 175 people in a cocktail format, respectively.

Our monastery also has two outdoor charming areas. On one side, a 177 m2 peaceful garden with capacity for 100 people sitting around tables or 200 people standing, in a cocktail format. And on the other side, the 209 m2 balcony with capacity for 90 people sitting or 150 people standing. In the latter venue you can enjoy one of the main attractions of Sant Miquel and of Poble espanyol, which makes our clients choose the rent of this monastery in Barcelona: wonderful panoramic views over the city, enjoying the height of Montjuïc mountain where we are located.

In addition, one of the major advantages of the monastery is that is has an independent access from the outside. This way, you do not need to enter by the precinct’s principal entrance to access it, guaranteeing a major privacy an exclusivity.
